This year's Stagecoach Conference 2011 took place from Monday 10th to Tuesday 11th October. Attended by Stagecoach Principals from around the country and overseas, the Conference gave delegates the chance to meet, exchange ideas and catch up on all the latest Stagecoach news from across the network.
This year the Conference travelled up the motorway to Birmingham. The move to the Midlands marked the second time the Conference has re-located from its usual home in London and the South East, and the centrally placed location was designed to give a wider number of Stagecoach Principals the opportunity to attend.
Housed in the beautiful Belfry Hotel in the heart of Wishaw, Sutton Coldfield the two day Conference began on Monday with an evening reception in the Woodlands Suite. Following a meal guests were treated to a very special performance by the North West Regional Choir and the Stagecoach Band.
The evening reception also included the annual award for the Stagecoach Franchisee of the Year, which was won by Jo Featherstone from Stagecoach Huntingdon (Runners Up: Robert Reynolds from Stagecoach Bridgend and the Vale & Cowbridge and Bob Dillinger from Stagecoach Milton Keynes); and the Newcomer award which was won by Zoe-Anne McCready from Stagecoach Caterham and Coulsdon. Wenda Williams received a special commemorative award at the Conference for 20 years with Stagecoach in Derby.
Following this was the presentation of the Stagecoach Franchisee 'Network Nomination' Award, whereby individual franchisees are nominated by a fellow Principal for the support, help and friendship they have shown to a fellow franchisee; this year's nominations were:
Angharad Walter (Cambridge); Joy Thomas (Coventry); Jo Weeks (Crawley); Trudy Hindmarsh (Darlington); Sarah Martin (Dorking); Gabrielle Noble (Ealing); Di Levy (Eastbourne); Ruth Marsden (Huddersfield); Sarah Corbett (Ipswich); Jacqui Dance (Leamington Spa); Allison Malone (Leatherhead); Judith Latham (Loughborough);
Fiona Carratu (Nottingham); Maya Sprigg (Oxford); Tina Muir (Putney); Jennifer Pando (Solihull); Kate Diaz (Southgate); Michelle Sills (Southwell); Sheryl Datta (Swindon); Rebecca Odedra (Uxbridge); Sally Thrussell (York)
The Runners Up were Wendy Ashman from Stagecoach Leighton Buzzard and Emma Bennetts from Stagecoach Rickmansworth, and the overall winner was Sharon Isaacs from Stagecoach Cheltenham. The awards were presented by Stagecoach Founders Stephanie Manuel and David Sprigg.
Moving on to business, the following day saw a packed schedule of events, talks and seminars: Stagecoach Montessori Manager Carmen Woods joined Stagecoach Deputy Senior Principal Fleur Manuel to discuss classroom inclusivity; Mike McNulty delivered an update on the work of the Stagecoach Charitable Trust; Stephanie Manuel spoke to the Conference about competition; Duncan Bennetts talked about the success of Stagecoach.TV; and before lunch Steve Lowe from Phoenix Forensic Consultants Ltd spoke to delegates about child protection.
The afternoon began with a rousing singing workshop led by expert practitioner Tom Wakeley; Head of Marketing Zeena Hicks introduced the exciting new plans for the future, and there followed an informative talk from David Sprigg about how franchisees can make the most of Head Office support.
Then, following a tax seminar with Dennis & Turnbull, Stephanie and David officially closed the Conference, wishing all the delegates a safe journey home.
Alongside all this, as usual, the Conference Market Place was packed with stalls either offering advice or selling everything a Stagecoach Principal could need! Included in the Market Place were stalls from, amongst others: Consider This, Dennis & Turnbull, The Diamond Group, Dotdismus, Lester Bowden, The Online Marketing Shop (T.O.M.S.), Performance Arts Awards, Rawlison Butler LLP and The Stagecoach Agency.
Roll on next year!
