Child Protection
Stagecoach is dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for its students and is proud to have been one of the first children’s organisations to set up a Protection Protocol for all its schools. This protocol was established by the late Ray Wyre, a well known and respected figure in the field of children’s safety. Since his death in 2008 Stagecoach has retained Steve Lowe, Ray’s former business partner, to continue Ray’s work as our Child Protection consultant.
A vital part of Stagecoach's Child Protection arrangements is that each school is run by a Principal whose role is to supervise rather than teach. Whilst the tuition is delivered by specialist teachers the Principal is free to observe all of the classes as he or she moves around the school. He or she is also on hand to deal with whatever incidents may occur, and to take whatever action is required.
Stagecoach requires all of its Principals, teachers and helpers to be checked via the Criminal Records Bureau and its structure is often used as an example of Best Practice when Child Protection issues are discussed.
In addition, every Stagecoach Principal has a direct ‘phone link to professional help and advice on those rare occasions that it is required.
It is the combination of the non-teaching Principal, the small class sizes and the immediate access to expert professional advice at any time that sets Stagecoach apart from many other organisations working with children.
